Hoy 4 de agosto se celebra el 60 aniversario del nacimiento del Billboard Hot 100. En 1958 la primera lista americana de singles tenía en lo más alto a Ricky Nelson con Poor little fool. Con motivo de ello Billboard ha elaborado un ranking de los temas más importantes de la historia de la lista. Para hacerlo no se han basado en ventas exactamente sino por la posición y las semanas que cada canción estuvo en la lista, y con una particularidad, las diferentes eras en la música no cuentan lo mismo, hoy en día las canciones están mucho más semanas en la lista que antaño, por lo que se hace una media por décadas, para igualar las canciones que aunque fueran #1, no estuvieron ni 15 semanas, o las que no siendo #1, sin embargo han estado más de un año en la lista. El resultado es una mezcla de canciones de diferentes épocas, aunque con marcado acento en el siglo XXI.
