Se celebró una nueva edición de los CMT Awards, los premios del country de la televisión. La ceremonia se convirtió en un festival de Keith Urban, que ganó 4 premios y casi todo lo que podía ganar.
Los premios comenzaron con el tributo a Gregg Allman, fallecido recientemente con Charles Kelley de Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker y Derek Trucks que tocaron Midnight rider. Hubo además actuaciones de Brett Eldredge con Something I’m good at, The Chainsmokers en ese experimento con Florida Georgia Line con Last day alive, Kelsea Ballerini con Legends, que es el adelanto de su nuevo disco.
La actuación de Thomas Rhett se resintió al no estar Maren Morris en su dúo Craving you. En otro invento raro, actuaron Luke Bryan y Jason Derulo con Strip it down y Want to want me. También estuvieron Little Big Town con When someone stops loving you. Lady Antebellum actuó con Earth Wind and Fire, en You look good y September.
Miranda Lambert actuó con Pink sunglasses, Blake Shelton con su último single Every time I hear that song y la actuación sin duda de la noche, Keith Urban y Carrie Underwood, en The fighter.
